India delivered a strong performance at the Asian Athletics Championships 2025, finishing second in the overall medal standings behind China. The five-day event, held from May 27 to 31 in Gumi, South Korea, saw India’s athletes bring home a total of 24 medals, eight gold, 10 silver, and six bronze.

More than 2,000 athletes from across Asia competed in this 26th edition of the championships, with India sending a delegation of over 60 competitors who took part in 30 events: 15 for men, 14 for women, and one mixed relay.

India’s medal run began on the opening day when Servin Sebastian claimed bronze in the men’s 20-kilometer race walk. Gulveer Singh secured India’s first gold medal in the men’s 10,000 meters and followed it up with another victory in the 5,000 meters, making him one of the standout athletes of the tournament.

On the women’s side, Rupal Chaudhary earned India’s first women’s medal at the championships with a silver in the 400 meters. She later contributed to India’s gold-winning efforts in the women’s 4x400m relay and the mixed 4x400m relay team, which successfully defended its title from 2023. Of the four-person mixed team, Subha Venkatesan was the only returning athlete from the previous championship in Bangkok.

Jyothi Yarraji continued her dominance in the women’s 100m hurdles, winning gold and retaining her Asian title. In another historic moment, Avinash Sable became the first Indian man in 36 years to capture gold in the men’s 3000m steeplechase.
